DESIGNER-APPROVED IDEAS FOR CRAFTING
When it's time to set the mood, a gloomy or uninspired bedroom will quickly ruin the mood. With a few simple adjustments, your most personal area can also be a sexy reflection of who you are. Whether it's a Valentine's Day with a lover or a casual Tuesday night, these ideas let you skip rose petals and chocolate by choosing something more permanent.

We talked to some of our favorite designers who share their secrets to the romantic mood in the bedroom.

Michael Amato, Creative Director of Urban Electric, explains: "Focus on diffused and layered light and use both shimmering and sensual textures to create a delightful bedroom environment - sexy bedrooms."

"Make things romantic by adding velvet cushions to your bedding," says Danielle Walish, Creative Director of The Inside. "Getting a smooth and soft texture into bed always feels sexy."

"Candles are a very romantic element," says interior designer Emilie Munroe. "To reinvent the cliché is to locate them unexpectedly. We have made great use of candlesticks in bedroom areas where wall lights are not hardwired. For example, on both sides of a mirror.Candle light is soft and romantic, and when it is off flickering the walls (compared to a tabletop) creates an element of the old world. "

The founders of Dekar Design, Caroline Grant and Dolores Suarez, say it's all about texture. "To create a restful and even sexy bedroom, we use a lot of textured layers. We want to design a bedroom where you feel like you never want to go. We love to use a wall texture to introduce this heat and good lighting is often the key to it. "
